JD Flooring recently completed a significant resin flooring installation for a warehousing and distribution operator based in West Yorkshire. The project involved refurbishing approximately 1,600m² of flooring in a unit that was being re-let to a high net worth client. The existing floor had accumulated multiple layers of dye, paint, and various coatings over the years, estimated to be around 10mm thick, creating a challenging substrate for our team to work with.
The extensive build-up of materials required a comprehensive approach to floor preparation, involving multiple grinding and shot-blasting processes to achieve a suitable finish.
Additionally, the project demanded significant edging work and repairs to numerous bolt holes and fixtures throughout the space. As specialists in industrial resin flooring installations, our team developed a detailed plan to transform this challenging surface into a durable, high-performance floor that would meet the exacting standards of both the property owner and the incoming tenant.

Upon conducting a thorough site survey, our technical team assessed the level of preparation required and identified the critical repair work needed for the floor’s joints and numerous bolt holes.
The survey revealed that extensive grinding would be necessary to remove the accumulated layers of coatings before any resin flooring installation could begin. This preparatory work would form the foundation of a successful installation, ensuring proper adhesion and longevity of the new floor system.
Following detailed discussions with the client about the intended use of the space, anticipated floor traffic, and available budget, we recommended a high-build epoxy coating system. This resin flooring installation would deliver exceptional durability while providing the clean, professional appearance required by the incoming tenant.
The system would include a scattered aggregate component to ensure slip resistance, maintaining workplace safety standards without compromising on aesthetic appeal or performance. Our recommendation balanced technical requirements with commercial considerations, ensuring the client received optimal value and performance from their investment.
Our technicians used specialised grinding and shot-blasting equipment to remove the accumulated layers of dye and paint, creating a clean surface with the appropriate mechanical key for the new resin system.
Following surface preparation, our team used epoxy resin combined with a suitable filler to repair the day joints and expansion joints throughout the floor.
The numerous bolt holes were cut down flush with the substrate and filled using a combination of epoxy resin and fast-cure repair systems. These repairs were allowed to cure completely before being meticulously inspected to ensure they provided the ideal substrate conditions for the upcoming resin flooring installation. This attention to detail during the preparation and repair phase established the solid foundation needed for a high-quality, long-lasting floor system.

Once all preparation work and repairs were completed and inspected, our team proceeded with the resin flooring installation. The specified system consisted of a two-coat, hard-wearing, high-build epoxy design, selected for its exceptional durability and resistance to the demands of a busy warehousing and distribution environment. The installation began with the application of the first coating layer, which was allowed to cure partially before receiving a scattered aggregate to enhance slip resistance.
After the first coat had cured completely, our technicians conducted a thorough inspection to identify and address any imperfections before applying the final coat. This methodical approach ensured that the completed resin flooring installation would deliver an immaculate finish while meeting all functional requirements.
The final layer of high-build epoxy resin was then applied with precision, completing the system and providing a seamless, hard wearing surface. The entire installation was performed within the agreed timeframe, minimising disruption to the client’s operations and ensuring the space was ready for the new tenant on schedule.

Following the completion of the resin flooring installation, the client conducted a detailed inspection of the work. They expressed high levels of satisfaction with all aspects of the project, from the extensive preparation work to the flawless final finish.
The client specifically highlighted our team’s attention to detail and the exceptionally tidy manner in which the preparation work had been carried out, despite the challenging nature of removing multiple layers of existing coatings. Our efficient workflow and ability to complete the project within the agreed time frame were also commended by the client.
They acknowledged that JD Flooring had delivered a high-quality, safe, and fit-for-purpose resin flooring solution that perfectly met their specific requirements. The successful completion of this project further reinforces our reputation as leading resin flooring installers capable of transforming challenging spaces into durable, attractive, and functional environments. The newly installed floor not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations, providing a professional finish that will serve the distribution facility well for many years to come.
A solvent free epoxy coating applied in two or more coats, building a film thickness of up to 1,000 microns. It is specified for medium duty use where the requirement is a clean, hard wearing surface over sound concrete.
Aggregate is scattered between coats where a slip resistant finish is needed. Anticipated life is 5 to 7 years in light use and 2 to 4 years under moderate use.
