The project was essentially about fixing a job that had been poorly done by another contractor. Our initial site survey revealed that the previous contractor hadn’t prepared the floor properly, leading to problems soon after. This meant our team at JD Flooring had to first remove an expansive 750m2 of screed.
Several patches had adhered to the sub flooring properly and were extremely difficult to dislodge. Anyone in the flooring industry knows that such a task requires skill, patience, and the right equipment. Adding to the complexity, the centre’s commercial nature meant we needed to minimise disruption during our work. JD Flooring, with our reputation for handling tricky situations and delivering quality, was more than ready to step in, correct the issues, and ensure the job was completed to the highest standard.

Our initial phase of preparation unveiled the magnitude of the challenge we were up against. As we delved deeper, removing the existing surface, a tapestry of underlying substrates came to light: bitumen, paving bricks, plywood, and fragile screeds.
Historical records indicated that the building served as a bustling market back in the 1920s. This newfound complexity altered the project’s scope significantly. The only viable solution, in ensuring the client achieved the desired finish, was to increase the thickness of the self-levelling system from our initial recommendation to 4mm. After appraising the client of our findings and the ensuing changes, we secured their understanding and green light to proceed.
Given the intricacies of the project, it was paramount to employ the right tools tailored for such challenges. Grinding was our primary method of choice for tackling the existing surface, necessitating the use of advanced machinery.
The heavy-duty Scanmaskin triple-headed machines stood out as a core component in our arsenal. In conjunction with tile lifters and flatbed grinders, we were able to efficiently navigate the task. The importance of these tools became even more pronounced when we encountered the diverse range of underlying materials, ensuring we maintained consistency and precision throughout the preparation phase.

The essence of self-levelling systems lies in the precision of preparation. With merely a 4mm margin for error, establishing a flat surface was paramount. Thanks to our meticulous preparatory phase, we were confident we had this foundational step right.
Another crucial aspect of self-levelling systems is the necessity of double priming. Bypassing this stage almost certainly guarantees failure. Following our diligent double priming, we rolled out a 4mm self-levelling polyurethane system.
Covering 750m2 in a single day, the swiftness and efficiency of the installation were a major part of the client’s requirements and large factor in their satisfaction with the work we carried out.
In order to achieve this, the JD Flooring team worked very late into the evening, showing our commitment to working to agreed timelines.

Following the project’s completion, our team at JD Flooring Ltd reached out to the client for feedback. They were delighted with the outcome and the professional service they received throughout the process. The new resin flooring installation not only addressed their functional requirements but also significantly enhanced the appearance of their premises.
This successful endeavour further underscores JD Flooring’s commitment to providing bespoke resin flooring solutions that cater to unique client demands, always aiming for exceptional customer satisfaction.
A three part filled system that self smooths to a seamless finish at 4mm or 6mm. It is specified for heavy to very heavy duty use where cleanability matters as much as durability.
Resistance in wet conditions depends on the seal coat selected. Anticipated life is 10 to 12 years under medium duty use and 5 to 7 years under heavy duty use. Static controlled versions are available.
