This case study examines a recent resin flooring installation project completed for a utilities company specialising in water treatment services. Located in Cheshire, the project involved transforming an old work shed into a functional warehouse and storage facility spanning approximately 186 square metres.
The client, an established water utilities repair company, required a robust flooring solution that would withstand the demands of their operational environment. Furthermore, they emphasised the importance of durability, specifically requesting a system capable of lasting over ten years. Consequently, any future disruption to their operations would prove costly, making the selection of an appropriate resin flooring installation crucial to their long-term success.

Following a thorough site survey, our team identified significant undulations across the existing floor surface. These irregularities required immediate attention before any resin flooring installation could commence. Subsequently, we recommended a comprehensive approach involving floor levelling followed by the application of a 6mm polyurethane screed system.
The polyurethane system was specifically chosen due to its exceptional durability and resistance to impact damage. Moreover, this particular solution offered superior chemical resistance, making it ideal for the client’s water treatment operations. Additionally, the system’s longevity aligned perfectly with the client’s requirement for a ten-year service life, ensuring optimal return on investment whilst minimising future maintenance requirements.
The existing floor presented considerable challenges due to years of heavy usage for storing vehicles, farm equipment, and various stock items. Therefore, extensive mechanical preparation was essential to achieve the required surface condition. Heavy-duty cleaning and preparation techniques were employed to remove contamination and create a suitable substrate.
Subsequently, significant repairs were undertaken using a specialised polyurethane mortar repair system. This material was carefully applied over a tack primer to ensure optimal adhesion and long-term performance.
Furthermore, all repair work was completed to exacting standards, addressing every area of damage to provide a stable foundation for the subsequent resin flooring installation.

Once all preparatory work was completed, our team proceeded with the main resin flooring installation. The 6mm polyurethane screed system was applied across the entire 186 square metre area, providing exceptional hardwearing properties, impact resistance, and chemical resistance. Additionally, the seamless application ensured optimal hygiene standards and ease of maintenance.
Following the curing process, a UV-stable, highly chemical-resistant coating was applied to the entire surface. This final layer incorporated an Alox additive, which significantly enhanced colour stability and wear resistance. Consequently, the completed installation delivered a professional finish that exceeded the client’s expectations whilst providing the durability required for their demanding operational environment.

Following the completion of the resin flooring installation, the client conducted a detailed inspection of the work. They expressed high levels of satisfaction with all aspects of the project, from the extensive preparation work to the flawless final finish.
The client specifically highlighted our team’s attention to detail and the exceptionally tidy manner in which the preparation work had been carried out, despite the challenging nature of removing multiple layers of existing coatings. Our efficient workflow and ability to complete the project within the agreed time frame were also commended by the client.
They acknowledged that JD Flooring had delivered a high-quality, safe, and fit-for-purpose resin flooring solution that perfectly met their specific requirements. The successful completion of this project further reinforces our reputation as leading resin flooring installers capable of transforming challenging spaces into durable, attractive, and functional environments. The newly installed floor not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations, providing a professional finish that will serve the distribution facility well for many years to come.
A three part, heavily filled polyurethane screed laid at 6mm to 9mm and finished with a seal coat. It is specified for medium to heavy duty use where the floor faces chemical spillage and frequent cleaning.
Resistance in wet conditions depends on the seal coat selected. Anticipated life is 8 to 10 years under heavy duty use and 5 to 8 years under very heavy duty use. Static controlled versions are available.
