Project Overview

In the demanding environment of a busy hotel kitchen, flooring plays a crucial role in maintaining safety, hygiene, and operational efficiency. When a leading hotel chain in Gateshead faced recurring issues with their kitchen flooring, they turned to JD Flooring Limited for a durable solution.

Assessment and Recommendation

Based on our assessment, we recommended installing a 6mm polyurethane trowel-applied screed system. This solution would not only address the immediate problem but also provide a long-term fix by fusing with the edges of the existing polyurethane flooring.

Preparation and Repair

Once the vinyl was removed, we employed a flat-bed diamond tip grinder to thoroughly prepare the surface. This crucial step eliminated any remaining latex and contaminants, ensuring a clean substrate for the new flooring application.

Following the surface preparation, our team conducted a thorough inspection and carried out small repairs as needed. This attention to detail is vital in ensuring the longevity and performance of the new flooring system.

We recognise that every space is unique and so are its challenges. Our approach to repair centres on understanding these distinct needs. In the case of this distribution company, the persistent impact damage and regular forklift movement required a solution that not only refreshed the aesthetic appeal but ensured structural integrity. Our Heavy Duty Polyurethane Resin Screed Flooring was a fitting choice. The repair process commenced with strategic saw cuts to contain the damage and prevent further deterioration. Subsequent application of the screed ensured a levelled, fortified surface that stands prepared for the rigours of everyday operations.

Installation Details

By opting for a professional resin flooring repair solution, the hotel gained a highly durable surface capable of withstanding the demanding kitchen environment. Unlike the previous vinyl flooring, this polyurethane screed is designed to resist high temperatures and heavy foot traffic, significantly reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacements.

Our approach ensured that the new flooring blended perfectly with the existing polyurethane screed. This seamless integration not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen but also eliminates weak points where different flooring materials meet.

The new polyurethane flooring provides a non-slip surface, crucial for kitchen safety. Additionally, its seamless nature makes it easier to clean and maintain, supporting the high hygiene standards required in a professional kitchen environment.

Resin Flooring Type Used

Heavy Duty Polyurethane Resin Screed

A three part, heavily filled polyurethane screed laid at 6mm to 9mm and finished with a seal coat. It is specified for medium to heavy duty use where the floor faces chemical spillage and frequent cleaning.

Resistance in wet conditions depends on the seal coat selected. Anticipated life is 8 to 10 years under heavy duty use and 5 to 8 years under very heavy duty use. Static controlled versions are available.
