The Client's Challenge
This project involved a prominent Cheese Producing Company, based in Wales, who are widely recognised for their quality products in the Food Sector.
This client, was already familiar with JD Flooring having engaged our services recently at the same site. Due to the success of that project, they contacted us with a request to install a walkway for pedestrians stretching from door to door, throughout the busy operational area to create a safe walking space.
In addition to this, hatchings, we were installed to the main good’s receivable doors and other in areas entrances and exits.
Assessment and Recommendation
Given the very busy operational areas the client needed clearly defined pedestrian pathways. This was aimed at safeguarding staff and visitors moving from door to door across the operational zones. Moreover, the installation of conspicuous hatchings at key points like the good’s receivable doors and various other entrances and exits was essential to mitigate any potential safety hazards.
Given the tight timeframe—just one day to execute the project—JD Flooring proposed a swift yet effective solution. A fast-curing Polyaspartic high build coating system was selected for its quick set time and robustness. To enhance safety further, an aggregate was incorporated for slip resistance, complemented by 100mm yellow safety lines to outline and emphasise the walkways and hatchings, facilitating safe navigation through entrances and exits.

Preparation
The preparation phase was streamlined, utilising a light sanding pad on an STR machine for a gentle yet thorough cleaning of the surface.
The recent installation of resin flooring meant that the area was relatively new and unused, eliminating the need for intensive grinding.
This approach ensured the base was impeccably clean and ready for the subsequent application.
Installation Process – Stage 1
Initially, our skilled team took precise measures to delineate the designated walkways and hatching areas, strictly adhering to the agreed specifications. This preparatory step involved carefully marking out these critical zones with tape edging to ensure accuracy and uniformity. Following the meticulous planning phase, we proceeded to apply two layers of Polyaspartic resin. Each layer was given a two-hour interval to cure fully, ensuring the resin set correctly and adhered strongly to the underlying surface. This phase was crucial in preparing for the final visual and safety enhancements of the walkways.
Installation Process – Stage 2
Upon the successful application and curing of the Polyaspartic resin, our team embarked on the final stage of the project. The tape used to edge the walkways and hatchings was replaced with durable, 100mm yellow safety lines. This transformation not only elevated the visual appeal of the floor but also significantly boosted its safety profile. The bright yellow lines clearly demarcated the pedestrian pathways from operational zones, providing a high-visibility guide that ensures safe navigation through the busy cheese production facility. This careful application of safety markings encapsulates our commitment to delivering both aesthetic and functional flooring solutions.
