Case Study
Resin Flooring Installation Case Study – Global Pharmaceutical Company, Leicester.
Global Pharmaceutical Company in Leicester
The Client's Challenge
Our client is a globally renowned Pharmaceutical Company, setting the benchmark in the industry. They operate in a sector where precision, cleanliness, and compliance with stringent standards are vital.
The client’s facility, classified as a class 10,000 area and adhering to cGMP standards, faced a pressing challenge. An unfit drain and delaminating vinyl flooring were compromising the area’s integrity.
The effected area was approximately 45m2 and included a bespoke drainage system and coving. Understanding the pressing and critical nature of these issues, a rapid and effective response was essential.
Assessment and Recommendation
JD Flooring Ltd conducted a thorough assessment, noting the excessive staining and general corrosion of the existing vinyl surface. Given these conditions, and the relatively short time period that had elapsed for the degradation of the surface to reach a critical level, it was apparent that a more robust, chemical-resistant resin system was necessary. We recommended the affected area be completed stripped back, a new gully cut to house an improved drainage system and a 6mm heavy-duty polyurethane screed with 100mm high polyurethane coving system, adhering to cGMP standards.
As part of this installation, we commissioned our drainage specialist to fabricate and install a bespoke “T” shaped drain, laid to falls, with a new gully and trap.
Preparation, Preparation, Preparation. It’s the Key
95% of all resin flooring installation failure is due to poor sub floor preparation
Preparation and Repair
The initial step involved removing the existing vinyl and cap and cove system. Water ingress over time had eroded the latex underneath, facilitating the removal process.
After clearing the failed system, the area was thoroughly cleaned. Limited access necessitated the use of small handheld grinders, fitted with PCD discs for heavy-duty grinding.
The subsequent phase included diamond cutting for the new drain and gully, followed by the removal of existing concrete to a depth of 200mm, readying the area for the new drainage installation.
Installation Process
After preparing the area, we primed the entire area and the newly created drainage void, installing a polyurethane bulk system to encase the new drain and gully. The drainage installations were secured in place overnight.
Over the course of the following two days, the team installed the 6mm heavy duty polyurethane screed adhering to cGMP standards.
The team also installed the 100mm high polyurethane coving system, which was secured to the walls with stainless steel trim for durability and to ensure cGMP standards compliance.

Additional Client Request
During the installation process ongoing discussions were taking place between the client’s in-site engineer and our team. These discussions result in an additional request to apply a high-gloss, chemical-resistant epoxy coating for a pristine finish.
This two-coat system included a fine aggregate to enhance slip resistance, and the coving was also coated for ease of cleaning and maintenance, which was deemed essential, considering the area’s 24/7 operational demand.
